_We’re looking for new team members who get excited about designing and delivering new and better products. Come join us and help build a better financial future for millions of people._
**About the role**
Our QA-Core team exists so that every engineering team at Upgrade can test their software quickly and have confidence in the results. We are looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer to design and build test automation infrastructure, tools, and agentic solutions to increase engineering productivity. This is not a traditional product QA role — it is a "build" role. You will work closely with our product teams to understand their automation needs, design services from scratch, deploy them to production clusters, and take ownership of them.
**_This position is fully remote and open to candidates based in Canada._**
**Our core technologies include**
Java, Python, Kubernetes, Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, TestNG, Maven, Git, Jenkins, ArgoCD, SQL, Grafana, SumoLogic, Docker, Gatling, Claude Code, MCP server
**What you will do**
- Design and take ownership of the automation framework for functional and performance testing.
- Build agents to automate existing QA/testing workflows and reduce engineering friction.
- Build the applications and services that automation depends on, deploy them, and operate them in production environments.
- Lead prototypes to completion. Build demonstrations in a timely manner, gather feedback from the teams that will use them, and iterate through successive versions until they are robust, monitored, and functioning with mature quality.
- Identify gaps in existing frameworks and tools, and iterate toward solutions that bridge them.
**What we are looking for**
- 5 to 7+ years of experience in building production software, with demonstrated expertise in test infrastructure, test frameworks, and developer tooling, as well as a good working knowledge of platform engineering.
- Proven experience in building agentic solutions and test automation frameworks from scratch — designed, delivered, iterated, and adopted as part of other engineers' way of working.
- Proficiency with agentic coding tools as part of your daily work: ability to orchestrate multiple agents to execute tasks and review agent-generated pull requests (PRs).
- Hands-on experience with microservices, Kubernetes, and deployment lifecycle management.
- Ability to transform an ambiguous problem statement into a scoped and defensible solution, autonomously.
**What we offer**
- Competitive salary and stock option plan
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
- Flexible paid time off
- Opportunities for growth and professional development
- Paid parental leave
- Health and wellness initiatives
**Language**

The role requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret information displayed on computer screens and remain in a working posture for extended periods, consistent with the demands of the position.
- Work may be performed in a contact center, office, or remote environment, depending on business needs and the nature of the role. Onsite work environments may include shared workspaces, standard office lighting, and moderate background noise typical of customer service or operational settings.
